Rooted MKE is a Milwaukee-based BIPOC children’s bookstore. With children at its heart, the owners wanted a space for kids and adults to feel welcome, relaxed, and inspired. The identity centers around the custom collection of shapes present in the main icon, which features fruit and plants (things that need love and attention to grow to their fully formed states) as well as an unfurled book. The loose, organic shapes speak to a raw, childlike style of drawing. These forms carry into various other illustrations, patterns, art, and imagery that can be used throughout all brand materials. The main type is tasteful and unique, while still being legible and fun. The color palette is slightly muted and earthy but offers a full rainbow of hues, tints, and shades.
